About our recipes
How our recipes work
Every Frittu recipe is generated for you — not retrieved from a database of existing recipes. Here is what that means in practice.
How recipes are generated
When you scan your fridge or explore a cuisine, Frittu sends your ingredients, dietary preferences, allergens, fitness goals, and cook-time preference to Frittu's AI. The AI generates a recipe specifically for your combination of inputs. No two users get identical recipes from identical scans, because the generation takes into account your full profile.
Recipes generated from the Cuisine Explorer or Meal Planner start from scratch — no fridge scan involved. The AI is given your allergen list, dietary preferences, cuisine style, and macro targets, and builds the recipe from those constraints.
How macros are calculated
After the AI generates a recipe, Frittu recalculates the calorie figure using the Atwater system: protein and carbohydrates each contribute 4 kcal per gram, and fat contributes 9 kcal per gram. This server-side recalculation overwrites the AI's calorie estimate before the recipe is saved.
Protein, carbohydrate, and fat values are AI estimates based on standard ingredient data for the quantities in the recipe. These are estimates, not lab-measured values. Actual nutrition varies with ingredient brand, ripeness, cooking method, and serving weight. Micronutrient highlights (shown as chips on recipe pages and in the app) are also AI estimates — they are informational only, not clinical measurements. If you are tracking nutrition for medical reasons, cross-reference with a registered dietitian or a dedicated nutrition database.
How allergen checking works
You set your allergens once in your profile. Every time Frittu generates a recipe, your allergen list is included in the instructions the AI receives. The AI is instructed to generate a recipe without those ingredients. Additionally, Frittu runs a server-side check on the finished recipe before saving it — any recipe whose ingredients contain a term that matches your allergen list is rejected and regenerated automatically.
This is what “generated without” means on recipe pages: the recipe was generated with your allergens listed as exclusions, and it passed a deterministic ingredient check before it reached you.
Important:Frittu's allergen checking reduces the likelihood of a flagged allergen appearing in a recipe — it is not a guarantee of safety. AI systems can make errors. Ingredient lists may not account for every derivative (for example, a sauce that contains a trace allergen). If you have a severe or life-threatening allergy, always read the full ingredient list carefully and consult a medical professional before preparing or consuming any recipe.
What 'generated without' means — and what it doesn't
When a recipe page shows “Generated without: gluten, dairy” (for example), it means:
- Those allergens were on your profile at the time the recipe was generated.
- The AI was instructed to exclude them.
- The ingredient list passed Frittu's server-side allergen check.
It does not mean the recipe has been tested in a kitchen, nutritionally analysed in a lab, or certified free of cross-contamination. The label describes the generation and checking process — not a guarantee about the finished dish.
