⚠️ About accuracy

Dish estimates are AI approximations based on typical serving sizes — not lab measurements. They're useful for awareness and tracking trends, not medical precision. Calories are derived from macros using the Atwater formula (protein×4 + carbs×4 + fat×9), the same method used on nutrition labels. For packaged foods, use Frittu's barcode scanner for exact values.

Common questions

How accurate is the dish calorie estimator?

Frittu's estimates are AI approximations based on typical serving sizes for the identified dish. Calories are derived from macros using the Atwater formula — the same method used on nutrition labels — so the four numbers always add up correctly. Confidence levels (low, medium, high) help you gauge certainty. Use estimates for awareness and trend-tracking, not medical decisions.

What kinds of dishes can Frittu estimate?

Any cooked or plated dish: restaurant meals, takeaway, home cooking, and cuisines from around the world. Pasta, curries, stir-fries, salads, burgers, sushi, rice dishes, wraps, soups — all work well. Unusual or highly regional dishes may get a lower confidence rating, but Frittu will still give you a best-effort estimate.

Is the calorie estimator free?

Yes. Dish calorie estimation is free for all Frittu users with no Pro subscription required. The scan counts toward your monthly scan quota (free users get 15 scans/month), but the calorie estimate itself does not consume an additional quota.

Can I log estimated dishes to my meal plan?

Yes. After getting a calorie estimate, tap 'Log to Meal Plan' and choose a slot — breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snack — for today. The dish and its estimated macros appear in your Nutrition Dashboard and count toward your daily macro goals.
